Health Programs


The Washington County Florida Council on Aging works closely with the Washington County Health Department and other health agencies to offer various low cost or no-cost health programs. Our senior health programs include: Blood Pressure Screenings, Diabetic Screenings, Cholesterol Screenings, Flu Shots, Podiatry, Vision Screenings and other low-or-no cost services for Washington County Residents.

 

Senior Resource Center

 

The senior resource center is located at the Washington County Council On Aging business office. The senior resource center provides a large area that is utilized for various activities. The facility accommodates up to 75 people and is used for our congregate lunch program, seminars, art classes, craft classes, educational studies, health support activities and line dancing.

 

The senior resource center is open Monday through Friday and may be open for some holiday or other special events of interested to Washington County seniors.

 

Recreational Activities

 

Daily physical activity is an important tool to improving and maintaining one’s health. Studies show that a moderate exercise program 30 minutes per day, 3 times a week, can result in many benefits including lower blood pressure, reduced stress, reduced risk for heart disease and certain cancers and increased personal independence.

 

The Washington County Council On Aging offers various physical activities paced with the needs of adult seniors. Our fitness programs, such as line dancing, is a great way to keep in shape, meet new friends and enjoy ones self.

 

Arts And Crafts

 

Equally important to physical wellness, mental wellness is also an important factor in healthy living. The Washington County Council On Aging offers many activities that help keep the mind sharp. The WCCOA staff and volunteers coordinate various art and craft classes that can be enjoyed at our senior center. We believe that seniors of all ages benefit greatly from the variety of physical and artistic oriented activities. We cordially invite you to attend!
